GPT-5 Launch Falls Flat

The most anticipated AI release of the year, GPT-5, has finally landed — and the reaction has been… underwhelming.

After months of hype, early users report that GPT-5 feels more like a small upgrade than a breakthrough. Complaints range from slower responses to persistent hallucinations and disappointing performance in basic tasks.

One example making the rounds: in a simple math test, Grok-4 gave a correct, concise answer instantly, while GPT-5 stumbled and overcomplicated things:

It’s a reminder that AI progress isn’t always a straight line, and that the “next big model” might not instantly change the game.

For builders, this is good news: the playing field is still wide open for smaller, faster, and more focused tools to win.

THIS WEEK’S TIP

Building an iOS app with React Native and Expo has never been easier. Here’s the simple flow:

1. Start in Bolt.new
   Open Bolt.new, describe your app idea, and make sure you specify it’s a mobile app in React Native.

2. Get Your Starter App
   Bolt will generate an initial scaffolding. Download it and open the project in Cursor to keep building.

3. Plan Before You Build
   In Cursor, create a PRD.md file with your app’s requirements, tech stack, UI/UX plans, and backend setup. Use GPT-5 to refine and perfect it.

4. Add Features & Polish
   Use Cursor’s AI agent (Sonnet 4 or Gemini 2.5) to add features, improve the design, and fix UX issues. For bigger integrations, use Claude Code via Cursor’s native extension.

5. Test Live on Your Phone
   Run npm run dev in the terminal and scan the QR code with the Expo Go app. You’ll see changes update instantly with hot reloading.

6. Ship Your MVP
   Once you’re happy with the app, ask ChatGPT for the exact steps to set up your Apple Developer Account. Then use Cursor’s agent to create an EAS (Expo) build and publish it.

Boom! you’ve got a working iOS app, no SwiftUI headaches required.
